ARTS N PLAY (Summer 2018)

Where: University Circle
ARTS N PLAY, an inclusion group for children with disabilities and same-aged peers, helps support and teach behavior, social, and communication skills. It is co-led by an Early Childhood teacher and a Board Certified Music Therapist and meets twice a week in a preschool classroom at The Music Settlement. Activities include: play time, snack, circle time, stories, arts & crafts, movement activities, outdoor activities, and music therapy. This program helps children learn how to be a part of a classroom and to accept the differences in others. To join ARTS N PLAY, children must have a known special need or disability, and parents must provide an IEP or professional evaluation. Each child will have an assessment and a classroom visit with our ARTS N PLAY staff before starting the program.

Home Based Music Therapy (Summer 2018)

Where: Off-Campus
Therapy programs using music can help adults with long-lasting illnesses and/ or medical problems meet their personal goals. Led by a Board-Certified Music Therapist, sessions are built on the strengths and interests of each person. Music therapy with The Music Settlement may: Help ease pain and stress using music-making, music-assisted relaxation, and other approaches Help heal the body Help improve memory or focus Improve sharing of ideas & feelings Support self-expression Provide chances to relate to others Support family contact Help improve well-being and feelings about life An assessment for anyone new to The Music Settlement is needed before signing up. Music Therapy Group Sessions - Off-campus Summer 2018

Where: Off-Campus
These sessions will occur in Solon at the Center for LifeSkills: Multi-sensory musical, movement or ensemble sessions use what each person likes, things they are good at, and things they need help with to make a program that matches their goals. Fun and engaging sessions give people a chance to learn and practice social, music and life skills. No previous music therapy experience is needed. For young children or those with less language, goals may include improving skills like remaining with the group, paying attention to others, sharing or turn-taking. Older people may focus on skills like group decision-making, problem solving, cooperation and on-topic conversation. Parents of small children may enjoy creative quality time with their young child while working on important social, speech and language, motor, play or cognitive developmental goals! Parents, caregivers or nannies take part as active partners and may receive coaching in music activities for home use. Anyone new to The Music Settlement needs an assessment before signing up. Music Therapy Musical Revue - UC Summer 2018

Where: University Circle
Teens and adults with disabilities who want to be with others can practice and learn new social skills while sharing and making music together. The program includes singing, dancing, musical games, and warm-ups. Also, the participants are taught music vocabulary, drama skills, and how to be on stage. Group members learn to talk with others, stay with the group, follow directions, and share ideas. Each member will have the chance to do a solo in addition to performing with the group. Those new to The Music Settlement need to come to a group assessment/audition before being accepted the program. Tuition assistance available to qualified applicants. Our Board Certified Music Therapists will work with you to build private sessions that use what each person likes, things they are good at, and things they need help with to make a program that matches their goals. Fun and engaging music experiences are adjusted to fit each person's age and can include singing, movement, songwriting, listening, instrument playing and more! Adapted music lessons may be given on piano, guitar, drums, and other instruments. An assessment for anyone new to The Music Settlement is needed before signing up.
